Senate Bill 178 prohibits cell phone use during class time.

As you know, the Utah legislature passed a law (Senate Bill 178 Devices in Public Schools) which took effect on July 1, 2025, banning cell phone usage during instructional time. You can read more about the law at this link.

Every school in Utah is now implementing cell phone policies starting this school year to comply with the law. Please make sure you are aware of how this law is being implemented at Mana Academy.

Section 10: Mana Cell Phone Policy

Mana Academy’s cell phone policy is designed to ensure a focused learning environment while

allowing scholars to responsibly carry their phones. Key points are outlined below:

● Scholars may bring cellphones to school, but phones must remain off and put away

during classroom instruction.

● Phones may be used only before and after school.

● Phones are not permitted for use in classrooms or hallways during the school day.

● Any classroom use of phones (calls, texting, social media, games, etc.) is strictly

prohibited unless explicitly authorized by a teacher for educational purposes.

1. First Offense: Teacher confiscates phone until the end of the school day.

2. Second Offense: Phone is sent to the front office; parent/guardian must pick it up.

3. Repeated Offenses: Additional disciplinary measures will apply under Section 9

(Discipline).

In case of emergencies, students must use the school office phone. Parents should call the

office to reach their scholar.

This policy is in alignment with Utah State Board of Education rules, which restrict classroom

cell phone use to protect learning and safety.
