Position: Paraprofessional Educator

Job Type: Part time, up to 28 hours a week

Location: West Valley City, Utah

About the position

The Paraprofessional Educator is a valuable member of an instructional team who provides valuable assistance in the classroom to students as they develop their skills, discover their abilities, and gain confidence in their competencies. 

 

Candidates will be working with a diverse student body and community, so it is imperative that the candidate quickly acclimate to the school culture, actively participates in community building by creating and fostering partnerships with parents, and attend all training and meetings.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree, equivalent experience, or proof that you are currently working towards a BA degree, this means that you are currently enrolled in college/university as a student. 

  • Interest in children and education 

  • Desire to assist students in a learning environment 

  • Well-developed emotional intelligence (ability to empathize/sympathize and motivate)

  • Emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved 

  • Experience working with culturally diverse communities

 

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.

  2. Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. 

  3. Monitors work, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff. 

  4. Serves as the chief source of information and helps any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the regular certified staff. 

  5. In the absence of a regular certified teacher, oversees and carries out instruction for the students. 

  6. Alerts the certified staff of any problem or special information about an individual student. 

  7.  Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips. 

  8.  When requested, serves as a resource person to the General Education Intervention Team and/or IEP / Title 1 / ELL Team(s).

  9. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community. 

  10. Participates in in-service training programs as directed by administration.

  11.  Maintains a safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties. 

  12. Performs other such duties / assignments as directed by the certified staff.

  13. Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP / Title 1 / ELL Team(s).

  14. Helps organize summer school. This involves reviewing materials that have been taught throughout the academic year, plan and carry out field trip opportunities and work on scheduling with parents. 

  15. Assist in morning, lunch, recess duty, and halls. 

  16. Para educators that work after noon will assist in the After School Program.

  17. Will perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
