Personal Device Ban in Effect for K-12 Schools

If you are not aware, the Utah legislature implemented a statewide "bell-to-bell" cellphone ban for K-12 public schools via Senate Bill 69, signed into law by Governor Spencer Cox and effective July 1st, 2026. You can read more about it here.
What does that mean for Utah schools?
The Personal Device Use Policy prohibits the use of personal electronic devices for the entire school day during class times transition periods, lunch, and recess.
A personal device under this policy can be any of the following:
Any cell phone devices such as an iPhone, Android phones under the Samsung brand, etc., or any other brand.
Personal laptops, gaming devices, and Extended Reality (XR) Headsets, etc.
Earbuds, headphones, bluetooth speakers.
Smartwatches with calling capabilities are allowed if silenced during school hours.
Emerging technologies such as Meta glasses or other smart glasses, etc.
