Tragedy stuck Mana Academy last week when we lost a scholar to a tragic drowning accident.

Leneah Taeoalii was a student at Mana Academy since kindergarten and would have entered fifth grade this school year. She drowned while attempting to save the life of her younger sister, Natia, also a scholar at Mana Academy, when they both fell into a pond at Willow Pond Park, Murray.

It is reported by the family that her last action in her final moments of life was prioritizing the life of her sister over her own, and pushed her to the surface. Leneah's body was recovered ten minutes later in a deeper part of the pond.

Leneah was briefly hospitalized, and after careful consideration, her doctors and family made the decision to take her off life support and her organs will be donated to help others. The walls of Primary Children's Hospital was illuminated in red, Leneah's favorite color, to honor her life and sacrifice.

Leneah's act of selflessness was not surprising to any of us at Mana Academy, as Leneah and Natia were inseparable, and she loved and protected her sister. We wish to express our utmost love and our deepest condolences to the Taeoalii family as they mourn the loss of beautiful Leneah. Her classmates and the Mana faculty will miss Leneah's presence tremendously, as we mourn with you and honor her memory and contributions to Mana Academy.
