BYUH President To Visit Mana Academy

Mana Academy proudly welcomes Brigham Young University Hawaii President John Keoni Kauwe to our campus on Thursday, November 18th, 2021. (please note this is a change from the original scheduled visit for Wednesday, Nov 10th)

President Kauwe is the first university president of native Hawaiian ancestry in the United States. From his BYU-H Bio:

President Kauwe earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology (1999) and a master’s degree in population genetics (2003) at BYU. From 1999-2001, he served as a full-time missionary in the Japan Fukuoka Mission. He received a Ph.D. in evolution, ecology, and population biology in 2007 from Washington University in St. Louis where he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Alzheimer’s disease genetics at the Washington University School of Medicine in 2008.

Prior to this, President Kauwe was a professor of Biology at Brigham Young University in Provo where he served previously as the chair of the Biology Department and as Dean of Graduate Studies. You can read more about him here.

A fun fact about President Kauwe—he's no stranger to Mana Academy. When we first opened our school and while he was a professor at BYU in Provo, Utah, he was one of the coordinators of the science tutoring after-school program at Mana Academy.

Our scholars have been working hard to prepare for the visit and we look forward to welcoming President Kauwe back to Mana Academy.
